各位大德，大家好：
这边有一份有趣的文件，是由国际上蛮有名的一份佛学 mailing list
（ BITNET 订阅论坛 ）BUDDHA-L 所统计出来的，关於订阅（SubScribe）
该跨国佛学 mailing list（虽然只能用英文 :)）的各国订阅人数。
嘿嘿! 在这上面「中华民国在台湾」挺争气的喔! 看了就知道 :)
虽然大陆在国际上气焰嚣张，不过咱中华民国在佛学方面是铁赢他们的啦!! :)
ps. 什麽是 mailing list ? 大部份的大德大概不清楚，因为这在台湾
InterNet 的环境比较不流行，不过在 BITNET 是很常见的。
下一封信将附上 mailing list 的介绍，提供各位大德参考。

Subject: Some pointless statistics
Like most political and economic analysts these days, I tend to rank
countries according to how many of their citizens subscribe to
buddha-l. For those of you who like to be kept informed of which
countries are world leaders in buddha-l subscriptions, I supply here
the latest raw data. Note that for these data to be significant, one
would have to consider what percentage of the country's population
subscribes to buddha-l. Thus, while the USA has many more subscribers
than Canada, it turns out that a higher percentage of Canada's total
population subscribes to buddha-l. (I reckon that 0.00015% of Canada's
population is tuned in to buddha-l, so we still have a way to go to
achieve the nation's goal of 100% buddha-l enrollment by the year
2003.) I suppose it must be acutely embarrassing to Japan to be outpaced
by Taiwan. (Any rumours that the government of Japan may fall because of
this crisis? Has there been a rash of spontaneous harakiri-related
fatalities in high government circles?) And of course I shall refrain
from drawing attention to France's poor showing, lest they choose
beautiful downtown Louisville as the next site for a nuclear test.
就如同这些日子来大多数的政治或经济分析，我试著依照各国国民订阅
Buddha-L 的人数，来为各国排名。对於你们其中想知道哪些国家在 Buddha-L
来看是世界大国的人，这大概是最新出炉的资料罗!
值得注意的是，在这些意义深远的数字背後，订阅的国民百分比是得被考量的。
例如虽然美国订阅的人数远较加拿大多，但是订阅的人数／全国人口则可知道
加拿大订阅 buddha-l 的人口百分比较高。（据我的计算，有 0.00015% 的加拿大人
收听我们的 buddha-l，所以相对於我们国家的目标 —— 2003 年前达到 100%
来说，仍有很长的一段路要走。）
我想对於日本来说，被台湾追过一定是件非常困窘（acutely embarrassing）
的事吧! （不知道市面上有没有谣传说日本政府将因这个危机而倒掉? :)
不知道有没有 harakiri 相关的迹象显示此卤莽的高层政府危机?

以及，当然了，我得克制著不去特别注意法国的 poor 表现，除非他们
选择景色怡人的 Louisville 市中心作为下个核子试爆地点。
